PAINT

My paintings are a mix of tireless layering, texturing, scraping back and building up of pigment, texture, and canvas surface - very close in candor to the ash accumulation and flame marks of the Anagama on the skin of clay.

My canvases have become increasingly sculptural as the use of paperclay has replaced traditional canvas primer and the impulsive dimension of wet clay drying on a taught frame has offered up spontaneous subtle-to-extreme cracking.

One process informs the other; the attraction of the process itself, indelible to both.
